One remained, so I requested it and picked it up last Wednesday. Recently, I decided to see if the library still had copies of this novel. I have very strong associations with it, and even though I forgot aspects of the plot in the following years, many details remained seared into my memory. The story was so vivid, remarkable, and well-told that it stuck with me for years, and I can hardly go a week without thinking about this book and the story it told. ![]() Despite that rough start, I really did enjoy the book, and found it both thrilling and fascinating. I was twelve, and the graphic description of a woman's death near the beginning of the book traumatized me and gave me nightmares.
